Scanners donated to Trust’s hospitals

The Friends has donated £23,000 to the Trust to buy three bladder scanners which are instruments used for measuring bladder volumes. The scanner uses ultrasound technology which means that non-invasive diagnostic tests can be undertaken with many benefits to patients. The equipment reduces the chance of infection and preserves privacy and dignity for patients. The scanners are also cost effective and save time for both patients and staff.
Anita Downs-Santoro, Matron for medicine and long term conditions, said: “The donation by the Friends of Peterborough Hospitals has meant that the Trust now has an additional three scanners so it can now provide the equipment on each floor at the District Hospital, on every ward at Edith Cavell Hospital and at Stamford Hospital and Peterborough Maternity Unit.
“The scanners are highly effective in helping to make clinical diagnoses and patients really benefit from this quick and non-invasive treatment. The Friends work hard to raise money for the Trust and we are grateful to them and to the people who have donated money.”
The Friends of Peterborough Hospitals raise money for the Trust through fundraising and by donations. During 2009 for example the Friends donated money to buy new equipment such as wheelchairs, ECG monitors, chairs and a colposcopy couch.
Susan Mahmoud, Chair of the Friends, said: “Every donation to the Friends and every penny raised is used to benefit patients at Peterborough District Hospital and Edith Cavell Hospital. The generosity of people and the dedication of the Friends volunteers has meant that we have been able to buy brand new equipment and invest in new technologies to improve patient care and assist in making clinical diagnoses.”
